Have you ever analyzed your traffic sources to see what is the most profitable one to optimize for adsense earnings? I am sure, many of you have done this way based on the data statistics that Google Analytics tracked on daily basis. However, have you ever thought about new visitors and repeated visitors are factors that determine your adsense earnings too?
It is very interesting to know that new and repeated visitors make a difference in terms of eCPM & CTR that dramatically contribute to your adsense earnings. New visitors is worth more to your adsense earnings rather than repeated visitors. This is a case study conducted by Darren Rowse from ProBlogger on new visitors vs repeat visitors:
On my photography site it is the case the new visitors click ads and earn more per 1000 visitors than repeat visitors.
Further, the first time visitors are likely clicking on Adsense ads rather than returning visitors:
This makes sense – those there for the first time are probably clicking around more, exploring and looking for things to click on. They’re also seeing ad units for the first time and are likely to click them.
Here is the graphs provided by ProBlogger:

I have thought about this for a long time and it is true with my other blogs where I only monetize with Google Adsense. Most of new visitors especially those who are from search engines are willing to click on adsense ads while returning readers rarely. However, sometimes repeated visitors click on adsense if we know how to optimize its colour palettes to build a successful adsense income blog.
What do you think about this? Have you ever used Google Analytics to track these data for adsense optimization?

You are right! Traffic really matters in terms of MMO
Great fact to know, Tinh! And thanks for sharing some of the tips for Adsense optimization. It’s great
You are welcome @Mike, hope this helps you
That’s right. The first time visitors are likely clicking on Adsense ads rather than returning visitors
As new visitors are new to adsense ads and they will click on ads if they are interested in
Really great post Tinh,
Exactly! New visitors tend to convert more than repeat visitors because many of the repeating visitors are already used to your site while the new ones are not.
You are right @Bami. Returning visitors know what is ads and what is content
I had no idea about this but then again I guess it is blatent. I mean a returning visitor will know where the ads are and won’t click them.
Exactly! That is why we should increase our new visitors
Hi, I think so. Adsense ads rather than returning visitors
Thanks for your comment!
Hmm… Now, I’ll try to care about more new visitors. Thanks for sharing this wonderful info
P.S. I think image is broken!
Hope you find it useful too. The image is working well.
Now, it working
That is good. Thanks for your reminder!
For my blog, most of the visitors (approx 70%) are from search engine. I agree this leads to a healthy CTR
That is great amount of traffic for your site. SEs traffis is always good
This is probably true because most visitors that comes from search engines are the one really looking for information. And they are willing to click links as long as it is relevant to what they are searching.
You are right @Vince. That is why the website with over 80% traffic from SE is also highly rated by community. This has been demonstrated in several studies conducted by Chitika Network
This makes sense – which is why you need to use affiliate programs as a way to pull more money out of your returning visitors.
@AJ: Well, to some extents it is true as most of repeat visitors know where is the content and where is the ads
Buysellads is probably the best option – because as the amount of repeat visitors goes up although your adsense earnings may not change, your advertisement spots will be worth more
Thanks @AJ for your advice. I have placed BSA there but no one buys it yet. But, it is ok and I hope to get the first sale as lucky money sooner
I found that I didn’t make my first sale until my estimated impressions went up to about 30,000 and that was at $10. You may experience the same thin or similar. If your spot doesn’t sell soonish I would actually recommend taking the code down until you have the impressions you need to sell your spot, simply because it will help speed up your site a bit (I saw a big difference in speed when I removed mine). As well as people tend to dislike heavily advertised sites.
Good luck!
Great advice! I have just removed it and it has made my blog loading slowly. Thanks
One more thing…this really bugs me about your site. Could you make your logo click-able to go to your homepage? Your navigation somewhat blends into the main content and I was having the hardest time figuring out how to get to your home page to checkout your latest posts.
That is one thing that I need to fix it now. Thanks for your reminder @AJ
Rightly said “first time visitors are likely clicking on Adsense ads rather than returning visitors”
good post !
Thanks as you liked it
New visitors are always best for making money from them. Because old visitors already know these ads So they will never click on ads
