Oh, my God! I could only say this when I read this news on The Wall Street Journal this afternoon. I wish this could be a fooling of April 4 but it was not. The update was also spread around on the internet from WebmasterWorld to the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to The Wall Street Journal report, GoDaddy posted revenue between $750 million and $800 million in 2009. With this reported news, the auction could fetch up over $1 billion in sale. This could be possible but who would be the next owner after Bob Parson is still a big question.
In 2003 Go Daddy’s revenue was $39.3 million, 2004 was $73 million, 2005 was $139.8 million, 2006 was $240.9 million, 2007 was $349.6 million and 2008 revenue topped $497.9 million. (SecondShares)
Here are some further information from WSJ for your reference:
GoDaddy.com, the closely held website that registers Internet domain names, has put itself up for sale in an auction that could fetch more than $1 billion, people familiar with the matter said.
Qatalyst Partners, the boutique firm run by veteran technology banker Frank Quattrone, has been hired to shop the Go Daddy Group Inc., which runs the world’s largest domain name registrar, these people said. Private-equity firms are expected to bid for the company, which currently has more than 43 million domains under management.
It seems that GoDaddy would follow Register.com, web.com and Network Solutions and get itself owned by a private-equity’s firm.
I myself do not know whether GoDaddy could get itself acquired by new new company or not but it is a big loss for many bloggers including AZBlogTips. GoDaddy is still the leading domain registrar and I have been with it for more than 7 years now.
Just a small update and I think many of you who have been with GoDaddy for a while would like to be aware of this too.

Something might actually happen. New owner also comes, but I think, the case is completely different from, comparing to what have ever happened with Registerfy.com before.
One thing left I care is that when Godaddy is acquired by a giant, the domain expense would rise much than the current. Wishing Mr. Google will take this cake since it is no more a start- up company something like Youtube.
I guess so but we need to wait until the final announcement is made either by Godaddy or new owner. I do not think Google will get it and other investors will never let Google do this too in order to avoid monopoly
Even i don’t like Google to buy Godaddy.
If they get it, after few days there will be promotion that , “if you have Gmail account, sign in to create a free .com domain !” lol
Moreover i am also against Google Fiber optics internet plan http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/ If they achieve it, they can control the web !
You are right @Siva. Even that US Gov. does not like Google to be another monopoly on the net. That will kill competitiveness and there are no more improvement
I like Go Daddy. My God, I hope it not true.
Good News.I will buy Godaddy with $1 billion. So cheap! lol
You should buy it soon before I do, lol. You would retrieve all the funds just in 2 years with GoDaddy.
You guys both should do a joint venture and give a bid of $1.2B to get it acquired soon
Oh my gold! 1 billion dolar, this is the price of Goddady? Well, its so cheap. But who can become it own?
No one knows
God knows it LOL
I am not in Godaddy. I haven’t thought Godaddy can do this… Shocking news!!!!!
It is but it seems Bob Parson wanted to get it acquired for a while
This is great information and congrats to godaddy
I do not want GoDaddy acquired as it is still doing a good job under Bob
1 billion dolar, I do not know when a business company domain name in Vietnam can achieve it ???
Never, never and never
Today is not but I believe in the future, hihi. we live together in Vietnam , Let’s have confidence, Tinh.
You are telling joke Trieu Thien. In Vietnamese, well will describle your action as “chém gió”.
I wish but we should think something realistic. Hope your dream, our dreams actually will become true sooner
Wow, I never thought a very big company that is earning a lot could also go for sale, but what could have been the reason?
I am not sure but it seems Bob want to get married again and spend his life for family and travelling rather than business LOL
Google may go for it
just to control a bigger slice of the web + they have DNS (remember 8.8.8.8) ; with GoDaddy they can play in the domain name registration as well…
I do not think so, I think Google would love to do so but US Gov. will not allow Google to get it acquired
I never registered at GoDaddy I first used name.com and I really like it so I am with them since my first domain!
Bob Parson is going to get really rich(more then he is now) and retire or something, good for him. It’s kinda of like Bill Gates 2.
P.S. btw i got here from digitalpoint, congrats on your first 1.5k with cj
P.P.S. i got some 500 error messages while trying to access this page(you should look in your errors_log)
Yeah I love his marketing strategy while inviting hot celebrities to show off and it worked
As usual, Godaddy still keep the rush with new customers for domain: 0.99$ per new .com domain per creditcard. The new code for this month is: FALL99 – just reg a new one there
You are right, no companies has so many coupons like GoDaddy as far as I knew
I found out about this a few days back. They also changed the colors on the site, maybe to impress buyers
You might be right @Peter
Interesting news, maybe this means we need to transfer our names out from Godaddy?
Not really! Everything seems not public and hope we will go nowhere then
Yeah, Godaddy are the most reliable this is why I have always used them! If the world blew up tomorrow Godaddy would be the last domain company standing
You are right, GoDaddy is still the only one domain registrar that can provide huge discount and I am happy with their domain service except hosting cpanel
One billion…I think there is not much people could afford with this such huge figure.. I wonder will Google raise up their hand and bid the auction again? Other than the owner of Godaddy, I believe that everything will be operating as usual right?
Regards,
Lee
