• Don’t buy fans – Even though the temptation may be there to “buy’ fans to make your page numbers look better, this tactic can backfire on you in a hurry. Not only will this cost your company money, but it can also damage your credibility among the search engine rankings. If you have 2,000 FB fans one month and it suddenly increases to 10,000 in just a month’s time, don’t you think visitors will be a little curious as to how you grew the site so quickly? Grow the site the natural way by giving visitors informative content to link to for starters;
• Use the page to be personable – While we all know that running a small business is a serious responsibility, have a little fun with your company’s FB fan page. Run things like contests, deals, videos etc. so that consumers have more reasons to come to the page. You will be amazed how quickly you can grow the page site if it is engaging and something people will want to visit it, not have to visit it. One way to go about this is creating a character or ‘face’ of the page much like you see on television commercials. A brand identity that people can engage with and is easy to remember, puts you a step ahead of the competition;
• Create a page that is multi-dimensional – The worst thing besides neglect that can befall your company’s FB fan page is not being interesting enough. You want to make it multi-dimensional so that it has links to a variety of articles including any blog posts your company authors, provides visitors with access to custom tabs highlighting your products and services, the ability to contact your company and the proper individual or department, and provides visitors with a call to action;
• Track your visitors – Lastly, it only makes sense to keep track of those coming to your site. There are several reasons for doing this, most notably aiding you in knowing who your audience is, where they come from and how often, which products or services they appear most interested in and more. While some CEO’s question social media and its importance for their companies due to the fact they claim to have a hard time measuring results, having the available data will make it easier to the marketing and/or public relations departments managing the page to make their argument as to its importance.
